Let’s face it; eating out is something we all love to indulge in, once in a while! Despite our love for eating out, at times independent restaurants often get overlooked in favour of larger chain restaurants. With this in mind, here at Printed Menus we went on a quest to find the best independent cafes in Cardiff!
Snails Deli, 6-8 Beulah Road, Rhiwbina, Cardiff CF14 6LX.
As you can imagine, I was spoilt for choice when choosing where I would visit for the second part to our ‘Cafes in Cardiff’ series.
As I live in Rhiwbina, I’ve always been intrigued by Snails – so I decided to grab some lunch there and give into temptation. I arrived at lunch time, when (unsurprisingly) it was fairly busy.
The windows were dressed with large hearts ready for Valentines Day and the snazzy decorations continued inside. What struck me immediately was Snails’ unorthodox and interesting set up – it felt like I stepped into a giant pantry with some of the walls stacked with vintage looking jam jars and various tins.
As I approached the deli counter, I felt a little overwhelmed by the choice of sandwiches, toasties and various other hot foods. Eventually (thanks to the lovely lady behind the deli!), I chose the ham and cheese melt, which I assumed, would look a little like a toastie. To drink, I went for my favorite – San Pellegrino Limonata (or lemonade).
When my food arrived, I was slightly bemused. It didn’t look like a toastie and in fact was far more filling – served with mountains of cheese and ham as well as some salad garnish. Impressed by the size and taste, the ham and cheese melt was great value for money and was certainly unique in presentation.
Snails is a small suburban gem that offers an authentic dining out experience, with great quality food at reasonable prices.
